Riri Riza Riri Riza is an Indonesian film director, film producer and screenwriter. Riri graduated in 1993 from the Jakarta Arts Institute, where he majored in film directing. His final film project, Sonata Kampung Bata, won 3rd place in the 1994 Oberhausen short film festival. In 1995, he directed two episodes in the documentary series, Anak Seribu Pulau (Children of the Thousand Islands). Riza directed his 1st feature film, Kuldesak, in 1998, collaborating with Mira Lesmana, Nan Triveni Achnas and Rizal Mantovani. His solo feature film debut, Petualangan Sherina in 2000, established him as a director. Together with Mira Lesmana, Riza has also become a film producer. Their Ada Apa dengan Cinta?, directed by Rudy Soedjarwo, had two million viewers in 2002, Indonesian cinema's biggest box-office draw. Riza studied wrote his 1st screenplay screenwriting in England, and then Eliana, Eliana. His other films include Untuk Selamanya (Three Days Gie, Untuk Rena, and 3 Hari to Forever)....

Gie Gie is a 2005 Indonesian film directed by Riri Riza. The film tells the story of Soe Hok Gie , a graduate from University of Indonesia who is known as an activist and nature lover. The film is based on a diary Catatan Seorang Demonstran written by Soe himself. The plot of this film is an interpretation of the filmmakers, and scenes portraying Soe's private life may be partly fictionalised for dramatisation. Soe Hok Gie grew up in a lower-middle class Chinese Indonesian family in Jakarta. In his early teens, young Gie had developed a fascination in concepts and idealisms advocated by world class intellectuals. Combined with a fighter's passion, faithfulness to friends, and a heart filled with genuine care for others and for his country, young Gie grew to become intolerant with injustice, and dreamt of an Indonesia that is truly founded on justice, equality, and righteousness.
